Diabetes friendly BBQ Sauce For July 4th Holiday!
BBQ is a great idea to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions but it is also a great way to bring the family or/and friend together. It does, however, require lots of planning especially if you have diabetes or expecting a guest with diabetes. Barbecued foods are a safe choice for diabetics but there is one problem – they are quite dry and the usual BBQ sauces are not the best choices for diabetics. The thing is that diabetics must not avoid only sugary foods but fatty and caloric too which makes most BBQ sauces inappropriate to serve to your diabetic guests.

Diabetes Drug Actos May Increase Bladder Cancer Odds
Monday, June 4th 2012 (HealthDay News) — People with type 2 diabetes taking Actos (pioglitazone) to control blood sugar may put themselves at risk for bladder cancer, according to a new Canadian study.
Although the absolute risk of anyone developing bladder cancer remains very low, taking the Actos pill for two years can double the risk, the researchers said.
“We believe physicians, patients and regulatory agencies should be aware of this association when assessing the overall risks and benefits of this therapy,” said lead researcher Laurent Azoulay, from the Center for Clinical Epidemiology at the Lady Davis Institute at Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. Middle Aged Diabetics May Need Earlier Colon Checks
Wednesday, May 22 (HealthDay News) — Researchers who say they’ve linked type 2 diabetes with earlier development of precancerous colon lesions recommend people with the blood sugar disorder start colorectal screenings at a younger age than others.
“Based on our data, it implies that people with diabetes should get screenings earlier, possibly at age 40, rather than at age 50,” said Dr. Hongha Vu, a clinical gastroenterology fellow at Washington University in St. Louis. Continue reading

MONDAY, May 21 (HealthDay News) — Many American teenagers, including some with a normal, healthy weight, already have one or more risk factors for heart disease, researchers say.
About 22 percent of today’s teens have borderline-high or already high LDL cholesterol — that’s the bad type. And 15 percent have pre-diabetes or diabetes, according to the new research based on data spanning from 1999 to 2008. Continue reading
